Trajectory of Fifths Based on Chroma Subbands Extraction-A New Approach to Music Representation, Analysis, and ClassificationabstractIn this article, we propose a new method of representing and analyzing music audio records. The method is based on the concept of the trajectory of fifths, which was initially developed for the analysis of music represented in MIDI format. To adapt this concept to the needs of audio signal processing, we implement a short-term spectral analysis of a musical piece, followed by a mapping of its subsequent spectral timeframes onto signatures of fifths reflecting relative intensities of sounds associated with each of the 12 pitch classes. Subsequently, the calculation of the characteristic points of the consecutive signatures of fifths enables the creation of the trajectory of fifths. The results of the experiments and statistical analysis conducted in a set of 8996 audio music pieces belonging to 10 genres indicate that this kind of trajectory, just as its MIDI-compliant precursor, is a source of valuable information (i.e., feature coefficients) concerning the harmonic structure of music, which may find use in audio music classification processes. | 2021 | Frequency Estimation in Interpolated Discrete Fourier Transform With Generalized Maximum Sidelobe Decay Windows for the Control of PowerabstractThe study presented in this article demonstrates that the sinptime window family is an extension of class I Rife-Vincent windows to a more general class, i.e., generalized maximum sidelobe decay (GMSD) windows. The presented frequency characteristics and other useful formulas derived for GMSD windows allow the derivation of a method to estimate the frequency of a sinusoidal component of a multifrequency signal based on the interpolated discrete Fourier transform. The presented estimation method is a significant generalization of methods already known. The method uses GMSD windows and takes into account the conjugate component in the spectrum. The method can be widely used, and, in particular, it allows for fast and accurate estimation of the frequency for a short data record (even below 1-2 signal periods). One of the many possible applications is frequency estimation in a power control system, which was studied in the accuracy analysis. Jozef Borkowski, Janusz Mroczka, Adam Matusiak, Dariusz Kania

State Assignment and Optimization of Ultra-High-Speed FSMs Utilizing Tristate BuffersabstractThe logic synthesis of ultra-high-speed FSMs is presented. The state assignment is based on a well-known method that uses output vectors. This technique is adjusted to include elements of two-level minimization and takes into account the limited number of terms contained in the programmable-AND/fixed-OR logic cell. The state assignment is based on a special form of the binary decision tree. The second phase of the FSM design is logic optimization. The optimization method is based on tristate buffers, thus making possible a one-logic-level FSM structure. The key point is to search partition variables that control the tristate buffers. This technique can also be applied to combinational circuits or the output block of FSMs only. Algorithms for state assignment and optimization are presented and richly illustrated by examples. The method is dedicated to using specific features of complex programmable logic devices. Experimental results prove its effectiveness (e.g., the implementation of the the 16-bit counter requires 136 logic cells and one-logic-cell level instead of 213 cells and four levels). The optimization method using tristate buffers and a state assignment binary decision tree can be directly applied to FPGA-dedicated logic synthesis. Robert Czerwinski, Dariusz Kania

CPLD-oriented Synthesis of Finite State MachinesabstractThe purpose of the paper is to present a new approach to FSM synthesis for PAL-based CPLDs. The proposed approach consists of the original method of the state assignment and PAL-oriented multi-level optimization. The aim of the proposed state assignment method is to minimize the number of the PAL-based macrocells by fitting the FSM to the structure of the CPLD as good as possible. The essence of PAL-oriented multi-level optimization is to search for multi-output implicants that can be shared by several functions. Results of experiments prove that the proposed algorithm leads to significant reduction of chip area in relation to the previously published methods and vendor-tools. | 2007 | A new approach to logic synthesis of multi-output boolean functions on pal-based CPLDSabstractA PAL-based logic block is the core of great majority of contemporary CPLD devices. The purpose of the paper is to present a new approach to multi-level synthesis for PAL-based CPLDs. The presented approach is an alternative to the classical method based on two-level minimization of separate single-output functions. The essence of the presented method is to search for multi-output implicants that can be shared by several functions. This approach presents a original form for illustrating a minimized form of a multi-output Boolean function. Graph node represents groups of multiple-output implicants with the common output part. The graph analyses allow to effective implementation of multi-output function in PAL-based devices. Results of experiments, which are also presented, prove that the proposed algorithm leads to significant reduction of chip area in relation to the classical method, especially for CPLD structures consisting of PAL-based logic blocks containing low number of product terms. | 2005 | State Assignment for PAL-based CPLDsabstractIn the paper, the state assignment methods of the finite state machines for PAL-based structures are presented. A main feature of the PAL-cell is a limited number of product terms (k-AND-gates) that are connected to a single sum (OR-gate). Function, which is the sum of p-implicants, when p/spl ne/k, does not take full advantage of the cell. When p>k, implementation is multi-cell (so multi-level). The main idea of solving this problem is to count the number of product terms during the process of state assignment. First algorithm leads to automata which take advantage of the number of PAL-cell terms. Second approach is dedicated to state assignment of fast automata. Methods based on primary and secondary merging conditions are presented. In one of the most basic states of the logic synthesis of sequential devices, the elements referring to restrictions of PAL-based CPLDs are taken into account. Robert Czerwinski, Dariusz Kania

A Novel Method of Two-Stage Decomposition Dedicated for PAL-based CPLDsabstractA PAL-based logic block is the core of great majority of contemporary CPLD devices. The purpose of the paper is to present a novel method of two-stage PAL decomposition. The idea of the method consist in sequential search for a decomposition providing feasibility of implementation of the free block in a PAL-based logic block containing a limited number of product terms. The proposed approach is an alternative to the classical method based on two-level minimization of separate single-output functions. Results of experiments, which are also presented, prove that the proposed algorithm leads to significant reduction of chip area in relation to the classical method, especially for CPLD structures consisting of PAL-based logic blocks containing 2/sup i/ (a power of 2) product terms. | 2005 | Decomposition of Multi-Output Functions for CPLDsabstractA paper presents decomposition method dedicated for PAL based CPLDs. Non-standard usage of decomposition, that leads to minimization of area in implemented circuit and reduction of used logic blocks in programmable structure is the aim of proposed method. Each decomposition step (bound set selection, graph colouring, column pattern coding, etc) is oriented for implementation in PAL-based structure that characterized by PAL-based logic block. Proposed decomposition method is an extension of classical approach commonly thought to be sufficiently efficient. Experiments that were carried out on typical benchmarks show significant area reduction. Dariusz Kania, Adam Milik, Józef Kulisz

The aim of this method is to cover a multiple-output function by a minimal number of PAL-based logic blocks. The product terms included in a logic block can be shared by several functions. Experimental results are compared to the classical technology mapping method. Dariusz Kania |
