| 2024 | LRAF-Net: Long-Range Attention Fusion Network for Visible-Infrared Object DetectionabstractVisible-infrared object detection aims to improve the detector performance by fusing the complementarity of visible and infrared images. However, most existing methods only use local intramodality information to enhance the feature representation while ignoring the efficient latent interaction of long-range dependence between different modalities, which leads to unsatisfactory detection performance under complex scenes. To solve these problems, we propose a feature-enhanced long-range attention fusion network (LRAF-Net), which improves detection performance by fusing the long-range dependence of the enhanced visible and infrared features. First, a two-stream CSPDarknet53 network is used to extract the deep features from visible and infrared images, in which a novel data augmentation (DA) method is designed to reduce the bias toward a single modality through asymmetric complementary masks. Then, we propose a cross-feature enhancement (CFE) module to improve the intramodality feature representation by exploiting the discrepancy between visible and infrared images. Next, we propose a long-range dependence fusion (LDF) module to fuse the enhanced features by associating the positional encoding of multimodality features. Finally, the fused features are fed into a detection head to obtain the final detection results. Experiments on several public datasets, i.e., VEDAI, FLIR, and LLVIP, show that the proposed method obtains state-of-the-art performance compared with other methods. | 2020 | A Surface Defect Detection Framework for Glass Bottle Bottom Using Visual Attention Model and Wavelet TransformabstractGlass bottles must be thoroughly inspected before they are used for packaging. However, the vision inspection of bottle bottoms for defects remains a challenging task in quality control due to inaccurate localization, the difficulty in detecting defects in the texture region, and the intrinsically nonuniform brightness across the central panel. To overcome these problems, we propose a surface defect detection framework, which is composed of three main parts. First, a new localization method named entropy rate superpixel circle detection (ERSCD), which combines least-squares circle detection and entropy rate superpixel (ERS) with an improved randomized circle detection, is proposed to accurately obtain the region of interest (ROI) of the bottle bottom. Then, according to the structure-property, the ROI is divided into two measurement regions: central panel region and annular texture region. For the former, a defect detection method named frequency-tuned anisotropic diffusion super-pixel segmentation (FTADSP) that integrates frequency-tuned salient region detection (FT), anisotropic diffusion, and an improved superpixel segmentation is proposed to precisely detect the regions and boundaries of defects. For the latter, a defect detection strategy called wavelet transform multiscale filtering (WTMF) based on a wavelet transform and a multiscale filtering algorithm is proposed to reduce the influence of texture and to improve the robustness to localization error. The proposed framework is tested on four data sets obtained by our designed vision system. The experimental results demonstrate that our framework achieves the best performance compared with many traditional methods. | 2019 | A Machine Vision System for Stacked Substrates Counting With a Robust Stripe Detection AlgorithmabstractBatch measurement of sheet-like product quantity is very common in manufacturing and commercial areas. Particularly, to satisfy the growing requirement of automatic and nondestructive detection, a machine vision system for stacked substrates counting is proposed in this paper. With a brief description of the system architecture and imaging module, the challenges for real data analysis are investigated. Our main contribution is to develop a robust stripe detection algorithm by combining the merits of local template matching and global frequency domain filtering. Besides the peak-valley feature across the stack profile, the collinear prior shape along the substrates is also utilized in a morphological scheme to purify the obtained ridge-line or stripe images, which, finally, benefits the statistical counting output. It is verified in experiments using a diversity of substrate media that our developed system can achieve a high counting accuracy with the detection error not more than 0.01% as the sample thickness varies between 0.05 mm and 0.5 mm. Moreover, the proposed algorithm performs much robustly with various kinds of abnormalities and interferences like irregular piling, media distortion, and foreign contamination. | 2016 | Pulmonary Fissure Detection in CT Images Using a Derivative of Stick FilterabstractPulmonary fissures are important landmarks for recognition of lung anatomy. In CT images, automatic detection of fissures is complicated by factors like intensity variability, pathological deformation and imaging noise. To circumvent this problem, we propose a derivative of stick (DoS) filter for fissure enhancement and a post-processing pipeline for subsequent segmentation. Considering a typical thin curvilinear shape of fissure profiles inside 2D cross-sections, the DoS filter is presented by first defining nonlinear derivatives along a triple stick kernel in varying directions. Then, to accommodate pathological abnormality and orientational deviation, a [Formula: see text] cascading and multiple plane integration scheme is adopted to form a shape-tuned likelihood for 3D surface patches discrimination. During the post-processing stage, our main contribution is to isolate the fissure patches from adhering clutters by introducing a branch-point removal algorithm, and a multi-threshold merging framework is employed to compensate for local intensity inhomogeneity. The performance of our method was validated in experiments with two clinical CT data sets including 55 publicly available LOLA11 scans as well as separate left and right lung images from 23 GLUCOLD scans of COPD patients. Compared with manually delineating interlobar boundary references, our method obtained a high segmentation accuracy with median F1-scores of 0.833, 0.885, and 0.856 for the LOLA11, left and right lung images respectively, whereas the corresponding indices for a conventional Wiemker filtering method were 0.687, 0.853, and 0.841. The good performance of our proposed method was also verified by visual inspection and demonstration on abnormal and pathological cases, where typical deformations were robustly detected together with normal fissures. | 2013 | Multiscale Bi-Gaussian Filter for Adjacent Curvilinear Structures Detection With Application to Vasculature ImagesabstractThe intensity or gray-level derivatives have been widely used in image segmentation and enhancement. Conventional derivative filters often suffer from an undesired merging of adjacent objects because of their intrinsic usage of an inappropriately broad Gaussian kernel; as a result, neighboring structures cannot be properly resolved. To avoid this problem, we propose to replace the low-level Gaussian kernel with a bi-Gaussian function, which allows independent selection of scales in the foreground and background. By selecting a narrow neighborhood for the background with regard to the foreground, the proposed method will reduce interference from adjacent objects simultaneously preserving the ability of intraregion smoothing. Our idea is inspired by a comparative analysis of existing line filters, in which several traditional methods, including the vesselness, gradient flux, and medialness models, are integrated into a uniform framework. The comparison subsequently aids in understanding the principles of different filtering kernels, which is also a contribution of this paper. Based on some axiomatic scale-space assumptions, the full representation of our bi-Gaussian kernel is deduced. The popular γ-normalization scheme for multiscale integration is extended to the bi-Gaussian operators. Finally, combined with a parameter-free shape estimation scheme, a derivative filter is developed for the typical applications of curvilinear structure detection and vasculature image enhancement. It is verified in experiments using synthetic and real data that the proposed method outperforms several conventional filters in separating closely located objects and being robust to noise.
