| 2016 | Falling in love with online shopping carnival on singles' day in China: An uses and Gratifications perspectiveabstractBased upon the theoretical perspective from Uses and Gratifications (U&G) theory, this study develops a nomological model to explain how incentivized gamification, hedonic presence, individual needs and platform synergy affect consumer active participation in the phenomena of online shopping carnival on singles' day in China. Data gathered from online shopping consumers in China through a large-scale online survey is used to test the proposed hypotheses. The research model was validated using the PLS technique. The empirical results show that (1) the consumers' active participation in online shopping carnival (OSC) facilitated by their engagement in online shopping are contributed collectively by incentivized gamification, hedonic presence, individual needs and platform synergy; (2) individual needs and platform synergy enhances consumer active participation in OSC; (3) incentivized gamification and hedonic presence have salient causal effects on consumers' individual needs and their perceptions on platform synergy. Our findings highlight the important roles of consumers' individual needs and their perceptions on platform synergy in mediating the effects of incentivized gamification and hedonic presence on online consumers' active participation. | 2006 | Empirically Testing User Characteristics and Fitness Factors in Enterprise Resource Planning SuccessabstractEnterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for supporting inter- and intracompany business processes are reaching maturity in many organizations. However, ERP systems are complex and expensive, and the decision to install an ERP system necessitates a choice of mechanisms for determining whether the ERP is needed and, once implemented, whether it is successful. User satisfaction is one evaluation mechanism for gauging system success. In this study, the efficacy of user characteristics and fitness factors as determinants of ERP success was empirically evaluated. The findings indicate that the fitness factors (i.e., compatibility and task relevance) have significant positive influences on ERP satisfaction. As for user characteristics, higher educated users have greater user satisfaction and managers have greater satisfaction than nonmanagement users. However, the study finds that user age, information experience, and package localization have no significant effect on ERP user satisfaction. The study offers insights that adopters and consultants can focus on to improve the level of ERP user satisfaction. Clyde W. Holsapple, Yu-Min Wang, Jen-Her Wu |

| 2004 | An Empirical Study of End-User Computing Acceptance Factors in Small and Medium Enterprises in Taiwan: Analyzed by Structural Equation ModelingabstractThis paper investigates end user computing acceptance and influence factors. A survey was performed with small and medium enterprises in Taiwan. The theoretical grounding for this research comes from the work of Igbaria, et al., (6) adapted from the technology acceptance model (TAM). We found (1) high computer usage in Taiwan's small and medium enterprises, but mostly for routine work, (2) only management support and perceived ease of use directly affected perceived usefulness and only perceived usefulness directly affected system usage. These findings were inconsistent with Igbaria, et al. (7). Updated models are proposed based on these research findings, the cultural factors peculiar to Taiwan and the IT introduction stage proposed by Scarborough and Zimmerer (16).
