| 1989 | An environment for performance experiment on multiprocessorsabstractThis paper describes an interactive tool for collecting and visualizing performance statistics for programs running on an Alliant FX/8 multiprocessor. The performance “workbench” presented is based on the gprof tool, supplied as a standard component with many Unix systems. The user-friendly environment presented does most of the bookkeeping necessary to compile, execute, and analyze application programs automatically. The environment also supports a graphical interface to review experimental data. The work reported here is a part of the ongoing work on the development of the Faust programming environment at the Center for Supercomputing Research and Development at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. | 1989 | GMB: A Tool for Manipulating and Animating Graph Data StructuresabstractAbstract This paper describes a tool graph originally developed for the Faust environment. Faust is a scientific program development environment being implemented at the Center for Supercomputing Research and Development at the University of Illinois at Urbana‐Champaign. The graph tool comprises two major components: the Graph Manager that implements an abstract graph data type, and the Graph Browser that handles the details of displaying a subgraph of a graph created through the Graph Manager. The Graph Browser displays graph views, where a graph view is a subgraph of its parent graph. The concept of graph views is analogous to the concept of views in the traditional database sense. Several graph views may simultaneously exist for a single parent graph, where each view's subgraph depends on the context of the application requesting the view. Goals of the graph tool, GMB, included providing an abstract graph data type for general use and animating graphs efficiently. David Jablonowski, Vincent A. Guarna Jr. |

| 1988 | FAULT: an environment for programming parallel scientific applicationsabstractThe goals and architecture of the Faust environment are presented. The components of the Faust user-interface library are described. The Faust program abstraction supports three levels of detail: the process graph, the subroutine interconnection graph, and the program source code. Each level is described in detail.> Vincent A. | 1988 | A Portable User Interface for a Scientific Programming EnvironmentabstractThe subject of integrated programming environments for scientific computing has become very popular over the last few years. Environments such as Rn [CCHK87] are being constructed to help coordinate the disjoint activities of editing, debugging, and performance tuning typically seen in the program development cycle. One key aspect of an integrated development setting is the library of user interface tools which are available to the environment builders. Projects such as Andrew [MSCH86] have begun to construct reusable user interface libraries for client applications. This paper describes the interface tool kit for the Faust project being conducted at the University of Illinois. Faust is targeted at building a coherent development environment for scientific applications through the use of a library of portable user interface utilities. Vincent A. Guarna Jr., Yogesh Gaur |
