| 2023 | Societal and Ethical Implications of Technology in EducationabstractDigitization is an ever-increasing feature of today's society and the ongoing and often nonlinear diffusion of technology has an impact on several aspects of work. For example., existing methods and processes often need to change., established cultures are challenged., new knowledge is necessary., whereas ethical implications should be revisited. Moreover., while technology changes., it also alters the skills needed by graduates., especially in terms of social and ethical competences. The current paper explores the relationship of societal and ethical considerations for students in the light of technology diffusion., and whether education needs to employ specific learning strategies in the curriculum to instill ethical values and skills to technology major students. The analysis draws on the findings of a survey conducted among students to identify what ethical requirements and tools are aware of., how such ethical considerations can be applied at the workplace and the ethical implications for the technologies they currently use. A number of important practical implications stem by the findings., which may be linked to societal and ethical considerations in education. | 2013 | ReProTool Version 3.0 - The Faculty Module for designing and enhancing university programmes to comply with the ECTS LabelabstractThis paper presents the Faculty Module of ReProTool Version 3.0 (www.reprotool.com), a software tool that is used for (re)designing and enhancing university programmes using the Bologna Process directives to achieve ECTS Label certification. The tool is the result of an eighteen months project (February 2012 - July 2013), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Research Promotion Foundation. The project entails the development and pilot use of ReProTool, a software tool that supports the design and development of university academic programmes using Learning Outcomes and the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) of the Bologna Process. The paper presents the results of an online questionnaire that was distributed to faculty members aiming at extracting the user requirements of the system. Based on these results and the results from interviews with experts and literature review, the faculty module of ReProTool Version 2.0 was redesigned. Various screenshots of the system are used in the paper to exemplify the functionality of the specific module. Philippos Pouyioutas, Ioanna Dionysiou, K. Harald Gjermundrød |
