2022 Disentangled Graph Recurrent Network for Document Ranking
abstract
Abstract BERT-based ranking models are emerging for its superior natural language understanding ability. All word relations and representations in the concatenation of query and document are modeled in the self-attention matrix as latent knowledge. However, some latent knowledge has none or negative effect on the relevance prediction between query and document. We model the observable and unobservable confounding factors in a causal graph and perform do-query to predict the relevance label given an intervention over this graph. For the observed factors, we block the back door path by an adaptive masking method through the transformer layer and refine word representations over this disentangled word graph through the refinement layer. For the unobserved factors, we resolve the do-operation query from the front door path by decomposing word representations into query related and unrelated parts through the decomposition layer. Pairwise ranking loss is mainly used for the ad hoc document ranking task, triangle distance loss is introduced to both the transformer and refinement layers for more discriminative representations, and mutual information constraints are put on the decomposition layer. Experimental results on public benchmark datasets TREC Robust04 and WebTrack2009-12 show that DGRe outperforms state-of-the-art baselines more than 2% especially for short queries.

2021 Consistent Inference for Dialogue Relation Extraction
abstract
Relation Extraction is key to many downstream tasks. Dialogue relation extraction aims at discovering entity relations from multi-turn dialogue scenario. There exist utterance, topic and relation discrepancy mainly due to multi-speakers, utterances, and relations. In this paper, we propose a consistent learning and inference method to minimize possible contradictions from those distinctions. First, we design mask mechanisms to refine utterance-aware and speaker-aware representations respectively from the global dialogue representation for the utterance distinction. Then a gate mechanism is proposed to aggregate such bi-grained representations. Next, mutual attention mechanism is introduced to obtain the entity representation for various relation specific topic structures. Finally, the relational inference is performed through first order logic constraints over the labeled data to decrease logically contradictory predicted relations. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets show that the F1 performance improvement of the proposed method is at least 3.3% compared with SOTA.

2021 Position Enhanced Mention Graph Attention Network for Dialogue Relation Extraction
abstract
Dialogue Relation Extraction (DRE) is a new kind of relation extraction task from multi-turn dialogues. Different from the previous tasks, speaker specific relations are implicitly mixed together in both a local utterance window and a speaker context. To tackle both local and speaker dependency challenges, we explicitly construct a unified mention co-occurrence graph within a local utterance window or all utterances of a speaker from different entities. For each dialogue, a position enhanced graph attention network over this graph is proposed to obtain position aware mention representations in terms of both contexts. A gate function is utilized to help obtain a discriminative representation enough for each relation from original and position aware mention representations. For each entity pair in this dialogue, a pairwise attention mechanism is deployed to aggregate those discriminative mention representations as pair representation, which is fed into a standard multi-label classifier for relation label prediction. Experimental results on two benchmarks show the performance improvement of the proposed method is at least 1.6% and 3.2% compared with SOTA.

2018 K-plet Recurrent Neural Networks for Sequential Recommendation
abstract
Recurrent Neural Networks have been successful in learning meaningful representations from sequence data, such as text and speech. However, recurrent neural networks attempt to model only the overall structure of each sequence independently, which is unsuitable for recommendations. In recommendation system, an optimal model should not only capture the global structure, but also the localized relationships. This poses a great challenge in the application of recurrent neural networks to the sequence prediction problem. To tackle this challenge, we incorporate the neighbor sequences into recurrent neural networks to help detect local relationships. Thus we propose a K -plet R ecurrent Neural Network (Kr Network for short) to accommodate multiple sequences jointly, and then introduce two ways to model their interactions between sequences. Experimental results on benchmark datasets show that our proposed architecture Kr Network outperforms state-of-the-art baseline methods in terms of generalization, short-term and long term prediction accuracy.

2016 Online variational Bayesian Support Vector Regression
abstract
Traditional Support Vector Regression (SVR) solvers require user pre-specified penalty (regularization) parameter as input and typically model the training data with maximum a posterior (MAP) principle. The resultant point estimates can be affected seriously by inappropriate regularization, outliers and noise, especially when training online. In this paper, we address the aforementioned problems by developing a Bayesian SVR model with the pseudo-likelihood and data augmentation idea. Then we perform variational posterior inference in an augmented variable space and the approximate posterior of model weights, rather than point estimates as in traditional SVR, are used to make robust predictions. Besides, once the approximate posterior is obtained from a given set of data, we can regard it as model prior when dealing with new arrival data, which leads to a natural way to extend our batch model to the online scenario. Experiments on several benchmark regression problems as well as a real vehicle accident rate prediction task show that our models have superior performance while inferring penalty parameter automatically.

2016 GPU-FV: Realtime Fisher Vector and Its Applications in Video Monitoring
abstract
Fisher vector has been widely used in many multimedia retrieval and visual recognition applications with good performance. However, the computation complexity prevents its usage in real-time video monitoring. In this work, we proposed and implemented GPU-FV, a fast Fisher vector extraction method with the help of modern GPUs. The challenge of implementing Fisher vector on GPUs lies in the data dependency in feature extraction and expensive memory access in Fisher vector computing. To handle these challenges, we carefully designed GPU-FV in a way that utilizes the computing power of GPU as much as possible, and applied optimizations such as loop tiling to boost the performance. GPU-FV is about 12 times faster than the CPU version, and 50\% faster than a non-optimized GPU implementation. For standard video input (320*240), GPU-FV can process each frame within 34ms on a model GPU. Our experiments show that GPU-FV obtains a similar recognition accuracy as traditional FV on VOC 2007 and Caltech 256 image sets. We also applied GPU-FV for realtime video monitoring tasks and found that GPU-FV outperforms a number of previous works. Especially, when the number of training examples are small, GPU-FV outperforms the recent popular deep CNN features borrowed from ImageNet.
