2016 Implementation of Discretized Gabor Frames and Their Duals
abstract
The usefulness of Gabor frames depends on the easy computability of a suitable dual window. This question is addressed under several aspects. Several versions of Schulz's iterative algorithm for the approximation of the canonical dual window are analyzed for their numerical stability. For Gabor frames with totally positive windows or with exponential B-splines, a direct algorithm yields a family of exact dual windows with compact support. It is shown that these dual windows converge exponentially fast to the canonical dual window.

2014 Discretized Gabor Frames of Totally Positive Functions
abstract
In this paper, a large class of universal windows for Gabor frames (Weyl-Heisenberg frames) is constructed. These windows have the fundamental property that every overcritical rectangular lattice generates a Gabor frame. Likewise, every undercritical rectangular lattice generates a Riesz sequence.

2007 Analysis, Optimization, and Implementation of Low-Interference Wireless Multicarrier Systems
abstract
This paper considers pulse-shaping multicarrier (MC) systems that transmit over doubly dispersive fading channels. We provide exact and approximate expressions for the intersymbol and intercarrier interference occurring, in such systems. This analysis reveals that the time and frequency concentration of the transmit and receive pulses is of paramount importance for low interference. We prove the (nonobvious) existence of such jointly concentrated pulse pairs by adapting recent mathematical results on Weyl-Heisenberg frames to the MC context. Furthermore, pulse optimization procedures are proposed that aim at low interference and capitalize on the design freedom existing for redundant MC systems. Finally, we present efficient FFT-based modulator and demodulator implementations. Our numerical results demonstrate that for realistic system and channel parameters, optimized pulse-shaping MC systems can outperform conventional cyclic-prefix OFDM systems

2003 Note on B-splines, wavelet scaling functions, and Gabor frames
abstract
Let g be a continuous, compactly supported function on such that the integer translates of g constitute a partition of unity. We show that the Gabor system (g,a,b), with window g and time-shift and frequency-shift parameters a,b>0 has no lower frame bound larger than 0 if b=2,3,... and a>0. In particular, (g,a,b) is not a Gabor frame if g is a continuous, compactly supported wavelet scaling function and if b=2,3,... and a>0. We give an example for our result for the case that g=B/sub 1/, the triangle function supported by [-1,1], by showing pictures of the canonical dual corresponding to (g,a,b) where ab=1/4 and b crosses the lines N=2,3,.

1997 Oversampled Wilson expansions
abstract
Orthonormal Wilson bases with good time-frequency localization have been constructed by Daubechies, Jaffard, and Journe (1991). We extend this construction to Wilson sets and frames with arbitrary oversampling (or redundancy). We state conditions under which dual Weyl-Heisenberg (WH) sets induce dual Wilson sets, and we formulate duality conditions in the time domain and frequency domain. We show that the dual frame of a Wilson frame has again a Wilson structure, and that it is generated by the dual frame of the underlying Weyl-Heisenberg frame. The Wilson frame construction preserves the numerical properties of the underlying Weyl-Heisenberg frame while halving its redundancy.

1992 Multiresolution analysis, Haar bases, and self-similar tilings of Rn
abstract
Orthonormal bases for L/sup 2/(R/sup n/) are constructed that have properties that are similar to those enjoyed by the classical Haar basis for L/sup 2/(R). For example, each basis consists of appropriate dilates and translates of a finite collection of 'piecewise constant' functions. The construction is based on the notion of multiresolution analysis and reveals an interesting connection between the theory of compactly supported wavelet bases and the theory of self-similar tilings.>
