2025 Performance Analysis and Enhancement of P-LDPC Codes for Lossy Compression of Binary Sources
abstract
Due to the duality between source coding and channel coding, high-performance channel codes are often adopted for addressing source coding problems. In this paper, we investigate the design and analysis of protograph low-density parity-check (P-LDPC) codes in lossy source coding systems. First, we propose a novel lossy source coding architecture based on P-LDPC codes, and empirically verify that although high-performance channel codes perform exceptionally well in their intended domain, they are not inherently optimal for lossy compression. To facilitate analysis, we introduce the lossy compression protograph extrinsic information transfer (LC-PEXIT) algorithm, which aids in evaluating the rate-distortion (RD) performance of P-LDPC codes. Additionally, the LC-PEXIT algorithm allows for the prediction of key parameters, such as the prior coefficientPand the reinforcement rateR, both of which critically influence system performance. We further propose a design algorithm for lossy P-LDPC codes and provide two sets of design examples. Experimental results show strong alignment between the predicted and actual values ofPandRf, with the designed P-LDPC codes exhibiting superior RD performance compared to classical P-LDPC and state-of-the-art ultra-sparse LDPC (US-LDPC) codes. In particular, the designed P-LDPC codes over benchmark codes increases the system coding efficiency of up to approximate 70% and achieves a performance gain of 1.69 ~ 3.26 dB, making it highly effective for lossy compression applications.

2024 Do Sentence-Level Sentiment Interactions Matter? Sentiment Mixed Heterogeneous Network for Fake News Detection
abstract
With the proliferation of fake news, the spread of misleading information can easily cause social panic and group polarization. Many existing methods for detecting fake news rely on linguistic and semantic features extracted from the content of the news. Some existing approaches focus on sentiment analysis for fake news detection, but the sentiment changes and sentence-level emotional interactions in news classification are not fully analyzed. Fortunately, we observe that in long-form news, the change and mutual influence of sentiment between sentences are different. To extract the features of sentiment interaction between sentences in the article, we propose a graph attention network-based model that combines both sentiment and external knowledge comparison to meet the needs of fake news classification. We obtain the contextual sentiment representation and entity representation of the sentence through the heterogeneous network and the emotion interaction network and obtain the change of the sentiment vector through the emotion comparison network. We compare the entity vectors in the context with those corresponding knowledge base (KB)-based, combine them with the contextual semantic representation of the sentence, and finally input them into the classifier. In experiments, our model performs well in both single and multiclass classification, achieving the state-of-the-art accuracy on existing datasets.

2024 HVCMM: A Hybrid-View Abstractive Model of Automatic Summary Generation for Teaching
abstract
With the continuous development of educational informatization, more and more emerging technologies are applied in teaching activities. These technologies provide massive and multidimensional information for teaching research, but at the same time, the information obtained by teachers and students presents an explosive increase. Extracting the core content of the class record text through text summarization technology to generate concise class minutes can significantly improve the efficiency of teachers and students to obtain information. This article proposes a hybrid-view class minutes automatic generation model (HVCMM). The HVCMM model uses a multilevel encoding strategy to encode the long text of the input class records to avoid memory overflow in the calculation after the long text is input into the single-level encoder. The HVCMM model uses the method of coreference resolution and adds role vectors to solve the problem that the excessive number of participants in the class may lead to confusion about the referential logic. Machine learning algorithms are used to analyze the topic and Section of the sentence to capture structural information. We test the HVCMM model on the Chinese class minutes dataset (CCM) and the augmented multiparty interaction (AMI) dataset, and the results show that the HVCMM model outperforms other baseline models on the ROUGE metric. With the help of the HVCMM model, teachers can improve the efficiency of reflection after class and improve the teaching level. Students can review the key content to strengthen their understanding of what they have learned with the help of the class minutes automatically generated by the model.

2022 MODLSTM: A Method to Recognize DoS Attacks on Modbus/TCP
abstract
With the rapid development of technology, the scale of traffics in industrial control networks is increasing day by day. More malicious traffics brought terrible impacts on industrial areas. Modbus plays a momentous role in the communications of Industrial Control Systems (ICS), but it’s vulnerable to Denial of Service attacks(DoS). Traditional methods cannot perform well on fine-grained detection tasks which could contribute to locating targets of DoS and preventing the destruction. Considering the temporal locality and high dimension of malicious traffic, we proposed a Neural Network architecture named MODLSTM, which consists of three parts: input preprocessing, feature recoding, and traffic classification. By virtue of the design, MODLSTM can perform high-precision identification and fine-grained classification of DOS attacks in the Modbus/TCP-based system. To test our model’s performances, we conducted experiments on our traffic dataset collected from the industrial control network, and the models achieved excellent performances in comparison with previous work(accuracy increased by 0.74%). The results show that our proposed method has satisfactory abilities to detect DoS attacks related to Modbus, it could help to build a reliable firewall to address the DoS traffic in industrial environments.

2020 Joint Component Design for the JSCC System Based on DP-LDPC Codes
abstract
The joint base matrix BJof the joint source-channel coding (JSCC) system based on double protograph low-density parity-check (DP-LDPC) codes consists of four components, namely, the source code Bs, the channel code Bc, the type1 connection edge BL1and the type-2 connection edge BL2, each having a non-negligible influence on the system performance. Different from the traditional component-specific design approach, we propose a joint design and optimization algorithm based on the idea of multi-objective differential evolution (MODE). Specifically, we consider the optimization of the DP-LDPC JSCC system through joint design of three components Bs, Bc, BL1and all four components Bs, Bc, BL1, BL2, respectively. The proposed algorithm has low search complexity due to the reduction in size and element value of base matrices. The joint protograph extrinsic information transfer (JPEXIT) analyses and the simulation results demonstrate that the resulting JSCC system is free from a high error floor, requires fewer number of iterations for reaching the same bit error rate (BER) and achieves significant coding gains as compared to the state-of-the-art. Our DP-LDPC JSCC system is also shown to outperform its separation-based counterpart by a wide margin.

2016 Characterizing Students' Behavioral Patterns in an Online Reading Test
abstract
Understanding students’ testing behaviors may help researchers design better computer-based assessment. For this reason, this study aims at characterizing students’ behavioral patterns in online reading test by k-means clustering. The clustering algorithm adopts eight indicators: reading time, answering time, the number of choosing articles, the number of choosing questions, the number of selecting options, the number of marking questions, the number of revisiting a test and the final testing scores. The result identifies five clusters of student testers: slow readers, fast readers, question markers, fast responders, and re-readers.

2015 Destriping algorithm with L0 sparsity prior for remote sensing images
abstract
Remote sensing image often suffers from the common problems of stripe noise and random noise. In this paper, we present a destriping method with unidirectional gradient L0 norm and L0 sparsity priori. The major novelty of the proposed method is that combining the unidirectional gradient L0 norm with the sparsity priori to address the destriping and denoising issues. Moreover, doubly augmented Lagrangian (DAL) method is adopted to solve the L0 regularized minimization problem. The proposed method is verified on heavily striped remote sensing images. Comparative results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the-state-of-art methods, which can suppress noise effectively as well as preserve image structures well.
