2021 The digital twin as an enabler of digital transformation: a sociotechnical perspective
abstract
Many organizations find the emerging concept of the Digital Twin (DT) to be compelling as a potential means to reduce the time and cost to develop new products, support fielded products, and enable rapid innovation to respond to new market opportunities. However, realizing the full potential of a DT may require significant changes in the methods, processes, and tools for product development and support currently used by potential adopters in the organization. We introduce an approach for assessing the behaviors and capabilities of the DT and their relationships within the organization’s sociotechnical system. We believe this approach can enable DT implementation outcomes better aligned with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives, and help to clarify not only what the DT can do, but what it should do for the organization. The approach is explained using an illustrative case study example, which is based on interim progress of our ongoing research project.

2018 Conceptual framework for the identification of influential contexts of the adoption decision
abstract
The decision to adopt new technologies is the most important stage in integrating a new technology into the ongoing processes of the organization and also to obtain benefits from its routine use. This paper proposes an integrated framework that combines Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) Theory, Technology-Organization–Environment (TOE) framework and Institutional Theory (INT) to characterize the critical factors influencing advanced technologies adoption in manufacturing context. This conceptual framework identifies three contextual environments - innovation, internal organizational and external environmental - that can influence the adoption decision along with some sub-contexts from the literature that may be considered. This framework can be used as starting point to explore in depth influential factors in advanced technologies in manufacturing contexts. Additionally, this framework can assist companies to develop adoption process plans as well as managerial practices that consider the role of these factors and thus lead to successful implementations.

2006 Dissecting Inter-Organizational Business Process Modeling: A Linguistic and Conceptual Approach
abstract
The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the of Business Process Modelling field focusing on the definition of the Inter-Organizational Business Processes from both a high-level modelling perspective and a technological one. We used a conceptual maps’ approach in order to clarify all the fundamental concepts that surround these two fields. We will present the two conceptual maps we have achieved through the help of a web-based tool for corpus linguistics and knowledge engineering named Corpógrafo and using the IHMC Cmaps Tools for the design of the Conceptual maps. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.

2006 The Socio-Technical Design Of A SME Knowledge Community In The Construction Industry
abstract
This paper presents the socio-technical design of a knowledge community which is part of a system to support an industrial association based collaborative network in the sector of construction industry. There are many explanations around the virtual community concept. Here is presented a fundamental phase of the Know-Construct project which involved the design of the Construction Industry Knowledge (CIK) Community using three analytical approaches. The generic architecture of the supporting system (Knowledge Community Support - KCS) is described, highlighting information and knowledge management, community building facilities and semantic resources management.
