2019 Reducing Cybersickness by Geometry Deformation
abstract
One major and well-known issue that occurs during VR experience is the appearance of cybersickness, which refrains users from accepting VR technologies. The induced cybersickness is due to a self-motion feeling that is produced when users see objects moving in the virtual world. To reduce cybersickness several methods have been proposed in the literature, however they do not guarantee immersion and navigation quality. In this paper, a new method to reduce cybersickness is proposed. The geometric deformation of the virtual model displayed in the peripheral field of view allows reducing the self-motion perceived by the user. Pilot test results show that visually induced self-motion is reduced with a guaranteed immersion quality while the user navigation parameters are kept.

2019 BIM-based Mixed Reality Application for Supervision of Construction
abstract
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is an up-and-coming methodology and technology used in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, that allows data centralization and stakeholders' collaboration. But to check the accuracy of the work done on the worksite, it is necessary first to go on site and then to modify the BIM model. This paper presents a mixed reality (MR) application based on BIM data and drone videos, allowing off-site construction supervision. It permits to make annotations about differences between what has been planned in BIM and what has been built, using superimposition of the two sources. Then these ones can be transferred to the BIM model for corrections. Finally, we evaluate our work with building construction experts, providing to them a questionnaire to grade the application and to get feedback. Our major result is that as for them the application does really help to do construction supervisions; however, they suggest that the application should provide more interactions with the 3D model and with the videos.

2018 Smart Adaptation of BIM for Virtual Reality, Depending on Building Project Actors' Needs: The Nursery Case
abstract
Nowadays, virtual reality (VR) is widely used in the AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) industry. One crucial issue is how to reuse Building Information Modeling (BIM) models in VR applications. This paper presents an approach for a smart adaptation of BIM models for using in VR scene, by following the needs expressed by building projects actors. The main adaptation consists in filtering BIM data to keep the necessary ones for VR, according to the user objectives. Moreover, VR system should be chosen by taking into account the purpose of usage of the VR model. This approach is applied to a study case of a nursery building project.

2017 Multi-view VR system for co-located multidisciplinary collaboration and its application in ergonomic design
abstract
In co-located collaborative environment for product design, new groupware of multi-view system allows multiple experts to have individual visual information. A co-located multi-view VR system and a multidisciplinary task have been created and studied. Results show that using multi-view VR system achieves a better effectiveness and user performance. Then, an application for collaborative ergonomic design is explored and an industrial multidisciplinary scenario is realized with proposed system.

2010 Semantic-Preserving Mesh Direct Drilling
abstract
Advances in modeling of discrete models have allowed the development of approaches for direct mesh modeling and modification. These tools mainly focus on modeling the visual appearance of the shape which is a key criterion for animation or surgical simulation. Most of the time, the resulting mesh quality as well as the semantics preservation capabilities are not considered as key features. These are the limits we overcome in this paper to enable fast and efficient mesh modifications when carrying out numerical simulations of product behaviors using the Finite Element (FE) analysis. In our approach, the modifications involve the resolution of an optimization problem where the constraints come from the shapes of the operating tools and the FE groups (sets of mesh entities) used to support the semantic information (e.g. boundary conditions, materials) contained in the FE mesh model and required for FE simulation. The overall mesh quality, a key point for accurate FE analysis, is guaranteed while minimizing an objective function based on a mechanical model of bar networks which smoothes the repositioning of nodes. Principle of the devised mesh operators is exemplified through the description of a 2D/3D mesh drilling operator. The proposed mesh modification operators are useful in the context of fast maintenance studies and help engineers to assess alternative design solutions aimed at improving the physical behavior of industrial machinery.
