2010 Smart Glasses: An open environment for AR apps
abstract
We present an architecture [fig. 1] and runtime environment for mobile Augmented Reality applications. The architecture is based on a plugin-concept on the device, a set of basic functionalities available for all apps and a cloud-oriented processing approach. As a first running sample app, we show a face recognition service running on a mobile phone, conventional wearable displays and upcoming see-through-goggles. We invite interested 3rdparties to try out the environment, face recognition app and platform.

2002 Visualizing User's Personality and Information in 3D Environments, a Step beyond Avatars
abstract
In this paper we present an innovative approach to visualize people's personal information. The approach is based on the assumption that a personal environment, furnished by an interested and engaged person, expresses more about himself than a simple text or even an image or fixed animation. We consider this personalized living environment as innovative form of a Resume, created with the intention of giving a possible employer a good impression about both: hard facts and soft skills of the applicant. We describe a client-server-based system, which allows professionals to create their own personalized 3D Homepage as their Resume.

2001 How Much is Your Virtual Environment Worth? Considering Economical Requests in Online 3D-Worlds
abstract
While for 2D Web sites there are means to evaluate user navigation from page to page and thus rate a sites value, there is nothing like that available for 3D environments. The user tracing approach described here provides information about users' navigation and interaction in 3D environments which can be utilized to rate a 3D Web site's value and also enhance the usability of the overall site. All information is collected on the client and then transferred to the server to be available for later evaluation.

1999 TGuide: A guidance system for tactile image exploration
abstract
I present a guidance system for blind people exploring tactile graphics. The system is composed of a new device using eight vibrating elements to output directional information and a guidance software controlling the device. The evaluation of the system is also described.

1997 Rendering Drawings for Interactive Haptic Perception
abstract
This paper describes a rendering method for generating tangible drawings of spatial real world objects based on a theory of haptic image perception and understanding. The method is based on an analysis of the process of drawing used by blind people and on cognitive considerations.A haptic rendering pipeline has been implemented which uses methods such as folding out or flattening to create 2D images from 3D models. The evaluation currently being carried out is described and the results are discussed in a broader application context.
