2010 Effect based scene manipulation for multimodal VR systems
abstract
Games use high quality graphics and pre-crafted visual and auditive effects to create user experiences. Virtual environments offer new navigation and interaction methods, immersive installations, and haptic and olfactoric output. We introduce an extension to VR systems, which makes it possible to use a wide range of multimodal effects from gaming and VR to be activated and modified on a per object basis at runtime. To access, manipulate, and add effects to the objects of a scene intuitively, our extension realizes an abstract, hierarchical scene concept using multimodal objects. Multiple effects can be added to each object and the parameters of each effect can be manipulated online. Fading of effects and bundling of multiple effects for multiple objects are more advanced features of the system.

2008 Two Stage Knowledge Discovery for Spatio-temporal Radio-emission Data
abstract
In this paper, we introduce a method to examine and interpret spatio-temporal radio emission datasets. The goal is to find communication patterns in the data in respect to spatial, temporal, and frequency based attributes. The chosen approach is a combination of two different AI-methods. First a clustering algorithm groups spatially close data points to potential emitters. In a second step a model-based constraint solving technique is applied to find relationships between the identified emitters. The used models describe rules of the communications that are to be found. This guarantees a flexible search for different kinds of communication.

2004 Live Tuning of Virtual Environments: The VR-Tuner
abstract
This paper describes a solution for the modification of virtual environment (VE) applications while being immersed in the application scenario inside of an immersive projection environment. We propose an infrastructure which enables developers to adjust object properties and change the structure of the scene graph and data flow between nodes using a tablet PC. The interface consists of a two dimensional graphical user interface (2D GUI) brought on a spacial aware touch screen computer, accompanied by a mixer console with motor faders. We discuss the usability of the combination of different interaction modalities for the task of tuning of VE applications.

2002 A Pragmatic Approach to Augmented Reality Authoring
abstract
In this paper we describe the augmented reality (AR) authoring system "PowerSpace" which allows fast and comfortable generation of AR worlds. The system presented uses the functionality of a 2D presentation program (Microsoft PowerPoint) as the basis for the composition of 3D content. An MS PowerPoint export is used to generate an XML-based extensible description of a presentation. This description is enriched by 3D content with the help of an editor, which is also part of the PowerSpace system. The content of this presentation is finally converted into 3D scenes and used in an AR-viewer.
