2022 RCL: Recurrent Continuous Localization for Temporal Action Detection
abstract
Temporal representation is the cornerstone of modern action detection techniques. State-of-the-art methods mostly rely on a dense anchoring scheme, where anchors are sampled uniformly over the temporal domain with a dis-cretized grid, and then regress the accurate boundaries. In this paper, we revisit this foundational stage and introduce Recurrent Continuous Localization (RCL), which learns a fully continuous anchoring representation. Specifically, the proposed representation builds upon an explicit model con-ditioned with video embeddings and temporal coordinates, which ensure the capability of detecting segments with arbi-trary length. To optimize the continuous representation, we develop an effective scale-invariant sampling strategy and recurrently refine the prediction in subsequent iterations. Our continuous anchoring scheme is fully differentiable, al-lowing to be seamlessly integrated into existing detectors, e.g., BMN [20] and G-TAD [41]. Extensive experiments on two benchmarks demonstrate that our continuous represen-tation steadily surpasses other discretized counterparts by ~2% mAP. As a result, RCL achieves 52.92% [email protected] on THUMOS14 and 37.65% mAP on ActivtiyNet vl.3, outper-forming all existing single-model detectors.

2022 An Intelligent Advertisement Short Video Production System via Multi-Modal Retrieval
abstract
In its most basic form, advertising video production communicates a message about a product or service to the public. In the age of digital marketing, where the most popular way to connect with audiences is through advertising videos. However, advertising video production is a costly and complicated process from creation, material shooting, editing to the final commercial video. Therefore, producing qualified advertising videos is a capital and talent-intensive task, which poses a huge challenge for start-ups or inexperienced ad creators. paper proposes an intelligent advertising video production system driven by multi-modal retrieval, which only requires the input of descriptive copy. This system can automatically generate scripts, then extract key queries, retrieve related short video materials in the video library, and finally synthesize short advertising videos. The whole process minimizes human input, greatly reduces the threshold for advertising video production and greatly improves output and efficiency. It has a modular design to encourage the study of new multi-modal algorithms, which can be evaluated in batch mode. It can also integrate with a user interface, which allows user studies and data collection in an interactive mode, where the back end can be fully algorithmic or a wizard of oz setup. The proposed system has been fully verified and has broad prospects in the production of short videos for commodity advertisements within Alibaba.

2021 Fashion Focus: Multi-modal Retrieval System for Video Commodity Localization in E-commerce
abstract
Nowadays, live-stream and short video shopping in E-commerce have grown exponentially. However, the sellers are required to manually match images of the selling products to the timestamp of exhibition in the untrimmed video, resulting in a complicated process. To solve the problem, we present an innovative demonstration of multi-modal retrieval system called ``Fashion Focus'', which enables to exactly localize the product images in the online video as the focuses. Different modality contributes to the community localization, including visual content, linguistic features and interaction context are jointly investigated via presented multi-modal learning. Our system employs two procedures for analysis, including video content structuring and multi-modal retrieval, to automatically achieve accurate video-to-shop matching. Fashion Focus presents a unified framework that can orientate the consumers towards relevant product exhibitions during watching videos and help the sellers to effectively deliver the products over search and recommendation.

2021 Exploring Visual-Audio Composition Alignment Network for Quality Fashion Retrieval in Video
abstract
Fashion retrieval in video suffers from the issues of imperfect visual representation and low quality of search results under the E-commercial circumstance. Previous works generally focus on searching the identical images from visual perspective only, but lack of leveraging multi-modal information for high quality commodities. As a cross-domain problem, instructional or exhibiting audio reveals rich semantic information to facilite the video-to-shop task. In this paper, we present a novel Visual-Audio Composition Alignment Network (VACANet) to deal with quality fashion retrieval in video. Firstly, we introduce the visual-audio composition module in VACANet aiming to distinguish attentive and residual entities by learning semantic embedding from both visual and audio streams. Secondly, a quality alignment training scheme is then designed by quality-aware triplet mining and domain alignment constraint for video-to-image adaptation. Finally, extensive experiments conducted on challenging video datasets demonstrate the scalable effectiveness of our model in alleviating quality fashion retrieval.

2021 AsyNCE: Disentangling False-Positives for Weakly-Supervised Video Grounding
abstract
Weakly-supervised video grounding has been investigated to ground textual phases in video content with only video-sentence pairs provided during training, for the lack of prohibitively costly bounding box annotations. Existing methods cast this task into a frame-level multiple instance learning (MIL) problem with the ranking loss. While an object might appear sparsely across multiple frames, causing uncertain false-positive frames. Thus, directly computing the average loss of all frames is inadequate in video domain. Moreover, the positive and negative pairs are equally coupling in ranking loss, so that it is impossible to handle false-positive frames individually. Additionally, naive inner production is suboptimal for the similarity measure of cross domains. To solve these issues, we propose a novel AsyNCE loss to flexibly disentangle the positive pairs from negative ones in frame-level MIL, which allows for mitigating the uncertainty of false-positive frames effectively. Besides, a cross-modal transformer block is introduced to purify the text feature by image frame context, generating a visual-guided text feature for better similarity measure. Extensive experiments on YouCook2, RoboWatch and WAB datasets demonstrate the superiority and robustness of our method over state-of-the-art methods.

2021 VideoDiscovery: An Automatic Short-Video Generation System for E-commerce Live-streaming
abstract
We demonstrate an end-to-end intelligent system of short-video generation for live-streaming, namely "VideoDiscovery'', which aims to automatically produce batches of high-value short-videos by discovering and organizing highlight content for commodity delivery. Traditionally, production of high-value short-videos for live-streaming is cost-expensive and time-consuming, which also demands experienced editing skills. To this end, we construct this system with three modules: 1)Semantic segment structuring first decodes live-streaming into a series of semantic candidates including commodity, Q&A, action, multi-modal, etc. 2)Hierarchical search engine performs automatically searches for semantically matching candidate shots from scripts. 3)Script-aware shot assembly is formulated combination problem over a graph of shots, considering temporal constraints and candidate idioms. Specifically, given an input live-streaming, the recommended video results illustrate diverse visual-semantic content, and follow script guidelines. Currently, our system has been launched online for Taobao stores, which enables to generate appealing videos in minutes for advertising and recommendation. The entry of our system is available at https://discovery.aliyun.com/index.

2019 Virtual ID Discovery from E-commerce Media at Alibaba: Exploiting Richness of User Click Behavior for Visual Search Relevance
abstract
Visual search plays an essential role for E-commerce. To meet the search demands of users and promote shopping experience at Alibaba, visual search relevance of real-shot images is becoming the bottleneck. Traditional visual search paradigm is usually based upon supervised learning with labeled data. However, large-scale categorical labels are required with expensive human annotations, which limits its applicability and also usually fails in distinguishing the real-shot images.

2019 Large-Scale Visual Search with Binary Distributed Graph at Alibaba
abstract
Graph-based approximate nearest neighbor search has attracted more and more attentions due to its online search advantages. Numbers of methods studying the enhancement of speed and recall have been put forward. However, few of them focus on the efficiency and scale of offline graph-construction. For a deployed visual search system with several billions of online images in total, building a billion-scale offline graph in hours is essential, which is almost unachievable by most existing methods.

2018 Visual Search at Alibaba
abstract
This paper introduces the large scale visual search algorithm and system infrastructure at Alibaba. The following challenges are discussed under the E-commercial circumstance at Alibaba (a) how to handle heterogeneous image data and bridge the gap between real-shot images from user query and the online images. (b) how to deal with large scale indexing for massive updating data. (c) how to train deep models for effective feature representation without huge human annotations. (d) how to improve the user engagement by considering the quality of the content. We take advantage of large image collection of Alibaba and state-of-the-art deep learning techniques to perform visual search at scale. We present solutions and implementation details to overcome those problems and also share our learnings from building such a large scale commercial visual search engine. Specifically, model and search-based fusion approach is introduced to effectively predict categories. Also, we propose a deep CNN model for joint detection and feature learning by mining user click behavior. The binary index engine is designed to scale up indexing without compromising recall and precision. Finally, we apply all the stages into an end-to-end system architecture, which can simultaneously achieve highly efficient and scalable performance adapting to real-shot images. Extensive experiments demonstrate the advancement of each module in our system. We hope visual search at Alibaba becomes more widely incorporated into today's commercial applications.
