2016 MMSE based two-stage beamforming for large-scale multi-user MISO systems
abstract
In this paper, we study a joint spatial division multiplexing (JSDM) beamforming scheme which enables large-scale spatial multiplexing gains for massive MIMO downlink systems. In contrast to the conventional JSDM which employs a block diagonalization (BD) method as a pre-beamformer, we aim to maximize sum-rate by applying minimum-mean-squared error (MMSE) approaches when designing a pre-beamformer and a multi-user precoder sequentially. First, to suppress inter-group interference, we design the pre-beamformer which minimizes an upper bound of the sum mean-squared-error in the large-scale array regime. Then, to mitigate same-group interference, we present the multi-user precoder based on the weighted MMSE (WMMSE) optimization method, which requires the same channel state information overhead as the conventional JSDM. Through simulation results, we confirm that the proposed two-step beamforming method brings substantial performance gains in terms of sum-rate over the conventional JSDM schemes especially in low to medium signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime.

2010 Effects of asynchronous MAI on average SEP performance of OFDMA uplink systems over frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels
abstract
This paper investigates the effects of asynchronous multiple access interference (MAI) on the performance of orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) uplink systems in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading environments. We first analyze the MAI and its statistical characteristics using the Gaussian approximation. Then the analytical expression for the uncoded average symbol error probability (SEP) is obtained with various modulation schemes. Comparison with simulation results shows a tight agreement of the proposed analysis over a wide range of asynchronous timing errors and for various numbers of asynchronous users. Numerical examples show that when asynchronous timing errors reside within the guard interval, a performance of uncoded SEP- 10-3 can be feasible even in high dispersive environments. Furthermore, the effect of the Gaussian approximation is examined, and the performance comparison between interleaved- and block-type subcarrier allocation schemes is provided.

2007 Ergodic Capacity of Spatial Multiplexing MIMO Systems with ZF Receivers for Log-Normal Shadowing and Rayleigh Fading Channels
abstract
This paper presents a derivation of an expression for the ergodic capacity of spatial multiplexing multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems with zero-forcing (ZF) receivers and independent substream detection. Assuming that the channel is unknown at the transmitter but known at the receiver, the ergodic capacity is formulated as a function of log-normal shadowing and Rayleigh fading. Gauss-Hermite quadrature integration is used to approximate the ergodic capacity expression in a concise form. The proposed analytical approach allows investigation of the effects of the shadowing standard deviation and the transmit correlation. Numerical and simulation results confirm that under various composite channel scenarios, the analytical results match well with the simulation results.

2006 Performance analysis of asynchronous MC-CDMA systems with a guard period in the form of a cyclic prefix
abstract
This letter presents an analysis of asynchronous multicarrier code-division multiple-access (MC-CDMA) systems with a guard period (GP) in the form of a cyclic prefix over frequency-selective multipath fading channels, which results in closed-form bit-error rate performance. Furthermore, it confirms that the frequency diversity of MC-CDMA systems is identical to the path diversity. The analytical approach proposed here is extended to the case without a GP. The derived analytical results show that a GP is required for MC-CDMA systems in order to mitigate not only the effect of intersymbol interference and intercarrier interference, but also the desired signal power degradation.

2006 Performance analysis of channel estimation for OFDM systems with residual timing offset
abstract
The authors present an analysis of the effect of timing offset on channel estimation for comb-type pilot-aided orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Residual timing offset does not negatively affect the channel estimation of the pilot subcarrier, but does corrupt the channel information obtained via interpolation. This paper provides the mean square error (MSE) channel estimation performance when a linear interpolation technique is used in a comb-type pilot-aided OFDM system. Analysis shows that the performance degradation of the channel estimator due to imperfect frame synchronization is dependent on the frequency correlation of the channels and the amount of timing offset

2000 PAPR Reduction in OFDM Transmission Using Hadamard Transform
abstract
An OFDM signal with large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) can cause power degradation (inband distortion) and spectral spreading (out-of-band radiation) by being clipped passing through a power amplifier. The PAPR characteristics are analyzed in two different aspects. From the foundation of the analysis, we propose Hadamard transform, which is ascribed to the relationship between the autocorrelation function and PAPR. Extensive computer simulations show that Hadamard transform is an effective technique to reduce PAPR.
