| 2026 | When Safe Unimodal Inputs Collide: Optimizing Reasoning Chains for Cross-Modal Safety in Multimodal Large Language ModelsabstractMultimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) are susceptible to the implicit reasoning risk, wherein innocuous unimodal inputs synergistically assemble into risky multimodal data that produce harmful outputs. We attribute this vulnerability to the difficulty of MLLMs maintaining safety alignment through long-chain reasoning. To address this issue, we introduce Safe-Semantics-but-Unsafe-Interpretation (SSUI), the first dataset featuring interpretable reasoning paths tailored for such a cross-modal challenge.A novel training framework, Safety-aware Reasoning Path Optimization (SRPO), is also designed based on the SSUI dataset to align the MLLM's internal reasoning process with human safety values. Experimental results show that our SRPO-trained models achieve state-of-the-art results on key safety benchmarks, including the proposed Reasoning Path Benchmark (RSBench), significantly outperforming both open-source and top-tier commercial MLLMs. Shujuan Liu, Jian Zhao 0006, Ziyan Shi, Yusheng Zhao, Yuchen Yuan, Chi Zhang 0012, Xuelong Li 0001 |

| 2026 | OmniVDiff: Omni Controllable Video Diffusion for Generation and UnderstandingabstractIn this paper, we propose a novel framework for controllable video diffusion, OmniVDiff , aiming to synthesize and comprehend multiple video visual content in a single diffusion model. To achieve this, OmniVDiff treats all video visual modalities in the color space to learn a joint distribution, while employing an adaptive control strategy that dynamically adjusts the role of each visual modality during the diffusion process, either as a generation modality or a conditioning modality. Our framework supports three key capabilities: (1) Text-conditioned video generation, where all modalities are jointly synthesized from a textual prompt; (2) Video understanding, where structural modalities are predicted from rgb inputs in a coherent manner; and (3) X-conditioned video generation, where video synthesis is guided by finegrained inputs such as depth, canny and segmentation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OmniVDiff achieves state-of-the-art performance in video generation tasks and competitive results in video understanding. Its flexibility and scalability make it well-suited for downstream applications such as video-to-video translation, modality adaptation for visual tasks, and scene reconstruction. | 2025 | MAGiC: An LLM-Powered Multi-Agent Framework for Unleashing Visual CreativityabstractHumans can complete high-quality creative work, such as drawing a picture or creating a video based on text, and editing images or videos according to textual requirements. In the earlier period of artificial intelligence, the “best of N” strategy was often utilized to leverage the creative capability of multiple visual creators, which was computationally inefficient and labor-intensive. With the emergence of large language models (LLMs), the LLM-based agent dynamically plans the invocation of tools to accomplish creative tasks. However, these agent systems struggle to achieve optimal tool planning and creative performance, especially complex creative tasks. Toward these issues, we propose MAGiC, a LLM-Powered Multi-Agent Framework for Visual Generation and Editing to unleash Visual Creativity. MAGiC addresses users’ creation requirements through the collaboration of four modules, i.e., task assignment, planning, execution, and evaluation, with each controlled by agents configured for different roles. Specifically, the task assignment module iteratively releases new tasks based on the user requirements and its completion progress. The Planning module configures the corresponding Planner for different types of tasks, and these Planners create detailed plans for the tasks they are responsible for. The Execution module iteratively executes the plans set by the Planners. The evaluation module assesses the result obtained by the execution module to prevent errors from affecting subsequent tasks. Finally, MAGiC illustrates excellent creativity on multiple tasks, especially complex ones, and the high scalability of MAGiC is an initial step in applying multi-agent systems to llm-based visual system. | 2025 | NFIG: Multi-Scale Autoregressive Image Generation via Frequency OrderingabstractAutoregressive models have achieved significant success in image generation. However, unlike the inherent hierarchical structure of image information in the spectral domain, standard autoregressive methods typically generate pixels sequentially in a fixed spatial order. To better leverage this spectral hierarchy, we introduce Next-Frequency Image Generation (NFIG). NFIG is a novel framework that decomposes the image generation process into multiple frequency-guided stages. NFIG aligns the generation process with the natural image structure. It does this by first generating low-frequency components, which efficiently capture global structure with significantly fewer tokens, and then progressively adding higher-frequency details. This frequency-aware paradigm offers substantial advantages: it not only improves the quality of generated images but crucially reduces inference cost by efficiently establishing global structure early on. Extensive experiments on the ImageNet-256 benchmark validate NFIG's effectiveness, demonstrating superior performance (FID: 2.81) and a notable 1.25x speedup compared to the strong baseline VAR-d20. | 2025 | Adversarial Locomotion and Motion Imitation for Humanoid Policy LearningabstractHumans exhibit diverse and expressive whole-body movements. However, attaining human-like whole-body coordination in humanoid robots remains challenging, as conventional approaches that mimic whole-body motions often neglect the distinct roles of upper and lower body. This oversight leads to computationally intensive policy learning and frequently causes robot instability and falls during real-world execution. To address these issues, we propose Adversarial Locomotion and Motion Imitation (ALMI), a novel framework that enables adversarial policy learning between upper and lower body. Specifically, the lower body aims to provide robust locomotion capabilities to follow velocity commands while the upper body tracks various motions. Conversely, the upper-body policy ensures effective motion tracking when the robot executes velocity-based movements. Through iterative updates, these policies achieve coordinated whole-body control, which can be extended to loco-manipulation tasks with teleoperation systems. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves robust locomotion and precise motion tracking in both simulation and on the full-size Unitree H1-2 robot. Additionally, we release a large-scale whole-body motion control dataset featuring high-quality episodic trajectories from MuJoCo simulations. The project page is https://almi-humanoid.github.io. | 2025 | Towards Reliable LLM-based Robots Planning via Combined Uncertainty EstimationabstractLarge language models (LLMs) demonstrate advanced reasoning abilities, enabling robots to understand natural language instructions and generate high-level plans with appropriate grounding. However, LLM hallucinations present a significant challenge, often leading to overconfident yet potentially misaligned or unsafe plans. While researchers have explored uncertainty estimation to improve the reliability of LLM-based planning, existing studies have not sufficiently differentiated between epistemic and intrinsic uncertainty, limiting the effectiveness of uncertainty estimation.
In this paper, we present Combined Uncertainty estimation for Reliable Embodied planning (CURE), which decomposes the uncertainty into epistemic and intrinsic uncertainty, each estimated separately. Furthermore, epistemic uncertainty is subdivided into task clarity and task familiarity for more accurate evaluation. The overall uncertainty assessments are obtained using random network distillation and multi-layer perceptron regression heads driven by LLM features.
We validated our approach in two distinct experimental settings: kitchen manipulation and tabletop rearrangement experiments. The results show that, compared to existing methods, our approach yields uncertainty estimates that are more closely aligned with the actual execution outcomes. | 2022 | Automatic Generation of Product-Image Sequence in E-commerceabstractProduct images are essential for providing desirable user experience in an e-commerce platform. For a platform with billions of products, it is extremely time-costly and labor-expensive to manually pick and organize qualified images. Furthermore, there are the numerous and complicated image rules that a product image needs to comply in order to be generated/selected. To address these challenges, in this paper, we present a new learning framework in order to achieve Automatic Generation of Product-Image Sequence (AGPIS) in e-commerce. To this end, we propose a Multi-modality Unified Image-sequence Classifier (MUIsC), which is able to simultaneously detect all categories of rule violations through learning. MUIsC leverages textual review feedback as the additional training target and utilizes product textual description to provide extra semantic information. %Without using prior knowledge or manually-crafted task, a single MUIsC model is able to learn the holistic knowledge of image reviewing and detect all categories of rule violations simultaneously. Based on offline evaluations, we show that the proposed MUIsC significantly outperforms various baselines. Besides MUIsC, we also integrate some other important modules in the proposed framework, such as primary image selection, non-compliant content detection, and image deduplication. With all these modules, our framework works effectively and efficiently in JD.com recommendation platform. By Dec 2021, our AGPIS framework has generated high-standard images for about 1.5 million products and achieves 13.6% in reject rate. | 2021 | DSGPT: Domain-Specific Generative Pre-Training of Transformers for Text Generation in E-commerce Title and Review SummarizationabstractWe propose a novel domain-specific generative pre-training (DSGPT) method for text generation and apply it to the product title and review summarization problems on E-commerce mobile display. First, we adopt a decoder-only transformer architecture, which fits well for fine-tuning tasks by combining input and output all together. Second, we demonstrate utilizing only small amount of pre-training data in related domains is powerful. Pre-training a language model from a general corpus such as Wikipedia or the Common Crawl requires tremendous time and resource commitment, and can be wasteful if the downstream tasks are limited in variety. Our DSGPT is pre-trained on a limited dataset, the Chinese short text summarization dataset (LCSTS). Third, our model does not require product-related human-labeled data. For title summarization task, the state of art explicitly uses additional background knowledge in training and predicting stages. In contrast, our model implicitly captures this knowledge and achieves significant improvement over other methods, after fine-tuning on the public Taobao.com dataset. For review summarization task, we utilize JD.com in-house dataset, and observe similar improvement over standard machine translation methods which lack the flexibility of fine-tuning. Our proposed work can be simply extended to other domains for a wide range of text generation tasks. Yunjiang Jiang, Zhaomeng Cheng, Chi Zhang 0012, Xiaochuan Fan, Bo Long |

| 2019 | Heterogeneous Memory Enhanced Multimodal Attention Model for Video Question AnsweringabstractIn this paper, we propose a novel end-to-end trainable Video Question Answering (VideoQA) framework with three major components: 1) a new heterogeneous memory which can effectively learn global context information from appearance and motion features; 2) a redesigned question memory which helps understand the complex semantics of question and highlights queried subjects; and 3) a new multimodal fusion layer which performs multi-step reasoning by attending to relevant visual and textual hints with self-updated attention. Our VideoQA model firstly generates the global context-aware visual and textual features respectively by interacting current inputs with memory contents. After that, it makes the attentional fusion of the multimodal visual and textual representations to infer the correct answer. Multiple cycles of reasoning can be made to iteratively refine attention weights of the multimodal data and improve the final representation of the QA pair. Experimental results demonstrate our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance on four VideoQA benchmark datasets. | 2019 | Multi-Horizon Time Series Forecasting with Temporal Attention LearningabstractWe propose a novel data-driven approach for solving multi-horizon probabilistic forecasting tasks that predicts the full distribution of a time series on future horizons. We illustrate that temporal patterns hidden in historical information play an important role in accurate forecasting of long time series. Traditional methods rely on setting up temporal dependencies manually to explore related patterns in historical data, which is unrealistic in forecasting long-term series on real-world data. Instead, we propose to explicitly learn constructing hidden patterns' representations with deep neural networks and attending to different parts of the history for forecasting the future.
