2025 The impact of personality traits on scrum team effectiveness: Insights from Vietnamese software development companies
abstract
Scrum is the most popular methodology within Agile software development, but the internal dynamics of Scrum teams are not fully understood. As a new destination for software outsourcing, Vietnam widely uses the Scrum development method in its software development companies. This study investigates the impact of personality traits on Scrum team effectiveness in the Vietnamese software development industry. This research aims to identify the effects of personality on Scrum team effectiveness. We developed a survey based on the HEXACO personality model and the Agile Team Effectiveness Model (ATEM). This includes gathering and analysing data on the personality traits and Scrum team effectiveness of software development professionals in Vietnam, covering various roles beyond developers. Our experimental study measures the personalities of team members based on the six HEXACO personality traits (extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness to experience, emotionality, and honesty-humility) and team effectiveness using ATEM’s three coordinating mechanisms (shared mental model, mutual trust, and communication). We used linear regression to verify the proposed hypotheses. With a sample size of 181 participants, five out of six personality traits influenced two of ATEM’s coordinating mechanisms. Agreeableness and Conscientiousness positively impacted Shared Mental Models, while Extraversion and Emotionality affected Mutual Respect. Weaker relationships were found, but they lacked practical significance. The Honest-Humility trait did not influence effectiveness. Our study shows that personality has relatively small effects on Scrum Team Effectiveness. Agreeableness and Conscientiousness have the most significant positive effects on Shared Mental Models, while Extraversion positively affects Mutual Respect, and Emotionality has a negative impact on Mutual Respect. In summary, Scrum teams benefit from members with high scores in Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Openness to Experience, and low scores in Emotionality. • Personality traits can affect Scrum team effectiveness. • Scrum teams with highly agreeable and conscientious members have better shared mental models. • Extraversion positively affects mutual respect, while Emotionality has a negative impact on it. • Honesty-Humility showed no significant predictive power in determining team effectiveness. • The research suggests forming teams based on personality composition to improve project outcomes.

2018 Resilience analysis of service-oriented collaboration process management systems
abstract
Collaborative business process management allows for the automated coordination of processes involving human and computer actors. In modern economies, it is increasingly needed for this coordination to be not only within organizations but also to cross organizational boundaries. The dependence on the performance of other organizations should, however, be limited, and the control over the own processes is required from a competitiveness perspective. The main objective of this work is to propose an evaluation model for measuring a resilience of a service-oriented architecture (SOA) collaborative process management system. In this paper, we have proposed resilience analysis perspectives of SOA collaborative process systems, i.e., overall system perspective, individual process model perspective, individual process instance perspective, service perspective, and resource perspective. A collaborative incident and maintenance notification process system is reviewed for illustrating our resilience analysis. This research contributes to extend SOA collaborative business process management systems with resilience support, not only looking at quantification and identification of resilience factors, but also considering ways of improving the resilience of SOA collaborative process systems through measures at design and runtime.

2013 Incident Notification Process as a Service for Electricity Supply Systems
abstract
Business Process Management (BPM) systems have been deployed in many large organisations to improve their business effectiveness and efficiency. Cloud-based BPM systems have provided SMEs using BPM in a pay-per-use manner. Previous work has focused on looking at Cloud-based BPM from the perspectives of distribution of data, activity or/and business engine and related issues, such as scalability of system, security of data, distribution of data and activities. To achieve business agility business process collaboration needs to seamlessly connect local BPM systems and cloud-based BPM systems. In this paper we look at BPM in the cloud from a new user perspective, how process models can be handled in the cloud for the fast pace of change of business collaborations. The paper proposes a distribution solution in which at the design time, the shared process model can be discovered from a process repository, and adapted to local needs; at runtime a process is distributed. A real world case is used to explain our design and implementation. An incident notification system collaborative process is built to work across different organisations.
