2026 FusionMVSA: Multi-View Fusion Strategy With Self-Attention for Enhancing Drug Recommendation
abstract
Leveraging the wealth of biomedical data available, we can derive insights into the relationships between biological entities from various angles. This underscores the complexity and significance of developing a dynamic approach for integrating data from multiple sources, a critical endeavor in drug recommendation. In this study, we introduce an innovative deep learning approach termed "Multi-View Fusion Strategy with Self-Attention" (FusionMVSA), designed to predict associations between drugs and diseases. To effectively amalgamate data from diverse sources and extract representative features, we have developed a feature extraction mechanism that capitalizes on similarities. This mechanism computes self-attention across multiple perspectives using shared group parameters, thereby highlighting common characteristics. Simultaneously, we utilize biomedical similarities among multi-source data as guiding factors for calculating similarity, enabling the capture of more nuanced features. Subsequently, we integrate these features through a feature fusion process, where known associations between drugs and diseases act as guiding terms. This strategy allows us to uncover the complementary aspects of different viewpoints. Ultimately, we predict potential drug-disease associations using a multi-layer perceptron neural network. Our methodology has undergone rigorous testing through various cross-validation experiments and case studies. We are confident that FusionMVSA will prove to be a valuable tool in drug recommendation, offering new avenues for exploration and discovery in the quest to combat diseases.

2025 DeepRB: Deep Resource Broker Based on Clustered Federated Learning for Edge Video Analytics
abstract
Edge computing plays a crucial role in large-scale and real-time video analytics for smart cities, particularly in environments with massive machine-type communications (mMTC) among IoT devices. Due to the dynamic nature of mMTC, one of the main challenges is to achieve energy-efficient resource allocation and service placement in resource-constrained edge computing environments. In this paper, we introduce DeepRB, a deep learning-based resource broker framework designed for real-time video analytics in edge-native environments. DeepRB develops a two-stage algorithm to address both resource allocation and service placement efficiently. First, it uses a Residual Multilayer Perceptron ( ResMLP) network to approximate traditional iterative resource allocation policies for IoT devices that frequently transition between active and idle states. Second, for service placement, DeepRB leverages a multi-agent federated deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach that incorporates clustering and knowledge-aware model aggregation. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate the effectiveness of DeepRB in improving schedulability and scalability compared to baseline edge resource management algorithms. Our results highlight the potential of DeepRB for optimizing resource allocation and service placement for real-time video analytics in dynamic and resource-constrained edge computing environments.

2024 A Fine-Grained End-to-End Latency Optimization Framework for Wireless Collaborative Inference
abstract
Mobile devices are becoming increasingly capable of delivering intelligent services by leveraging deep learning architectures such as deep neural networks (DNNs). However, due to the compute-intensive nature of these tasks, mobile devices often struggle to handle them independently, leading to the exploration of collaborative inference as a promising solution for achieving low-latency mobile intelligence. Despite its potential benefits, many challenges need to be addressed in realizing the full potential of inference acceleration. This article presents a collaborative device-edge inference optimization framework as a promising solution to inference acceleration. The framework comprises fundamental modules, including the parameters generator (PG), accuracy predictor (AP), delay calculator (DC), and optimizer (OP), which are specifically designed to identify the optimal set of parameters for model compression, DNN partition, and feature compression. To illustrate its implementation, an example of a deep CNN network is introduced, and the collaborative inference latency optimization is formulated as a mixed-integer programming problem. The implementation of a specific algorithm instance using a quantum-inspired OP within the optimization framework is then presented. A multiple regression-based inference accuracy prediction model is proposed to maintain inference accuracy close to that of the original network while significantly reducing the time consumption during the offline phase. Through various simulation scenarios involving inference tasks of AlexNet and RegNet on CIFAR-10, incorporating diverse hardware computation specifications and wireless communication link conditions, the proposed framework demonstrates superior performance in terms of inference acceleration compared to the compared methods.

2023 A Clustering Method Unifying Cell-Type Recognition and Subtype Identification for Tumor Heterogeneity Analysis
abstract
The rapid development of single-cell technology has opened up a whole new perspective for identifying cell types in multicellular organisms and understanding the relationships between them. Distinguishing different cell types and subtypes can identify the components of different immune cells and different tumor clones in the tumor microenvironment, which is the basic work of tumor heterogeneity analysis and can help researchers understand the mechanism of tumor immune escape. Existing algorithms treat both cell types and subtypes as populations of cells with specific gene expression patterns, which is not conducive to accurate cell typing. For that, we proposed a cell similarity metric that unifies cell type recognition and subtype identification (UCRSI), with the assumption that selectively expressed genes represent differences in underlying cell type with on/off manner, while differences in expression level represent different cell subtype with more/less manner. Our method calculates these two kinds of differences separately, and then combines them using a consensus adjacency matrix, and finally cell typing is completed using spectral clustering algorithm. The results show that UCRSI can reconstruct expert annotation of single-cell RNA sequencing datasets more robustly than existing methods. And, UCRSI is useful for analyzing tumor heterogeneity and improving visualization of large-scale cell clustering.

2022 Multiobjective Optimization for Joint Task Offloading, Power Assignment, and Resource Allocation in Mobile Edge Computing
abstract
Mobile edge computing (MEC) is an emerging computational paradigm for providing storage and computing capabilities in network edge, to improve the experience of users, to shorten the delay, and to reduce the energy consumption of mobile devices. In this article, we consider a multiuser and multiserver scenario, where each user has an application composed of multiple independent tasks that need to be executed, and each MEC server is equipped on a base station (BS) for assisting mobile users to execute computation-intensive and time-sensitive tasks. Multiobjective optimization for joint task offloading, power assignment, and resource allocation is studied to maximize the offloading gains of users. A multivariable and multiobjective optimization problem with three objectives is constructed. An efficient multiobjective evolutionary algorithm is developed to solve the problems of minimizing the response time, minimizing the energy consumption, and minimizing the cost. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of our algorithm, and show the method significantly improves the user’s offloading benefits. According to the author’s knowledge, this is the first paper on the exploration of multiobjective optimization of multiuser with multiple tasks and multiserver MEC system, in which the worst user offloading revenue is regarded as the optimization objectives.

2021 Drug repositioning based on the heterogeneous information fusion graph convolutional network
abstract
In silico reuse of old drugs (also known as drug repositioning) to treat common and rare diseases is increasingly becoming an attractive proposition because it involves the use of de-risked drugs, with potentially lower overall development costs and shorter development timelines. Therefore, there is a pressing need for computational drug repurposing methodologies to facilitate drug discovery. In this study, we propose a new method, called DRHGCN (Drug Repositioning based on the Heterogeneous information fusion Graph Convolutional Network), to discover potential drugs for a certain disease. To make full use of different topology information in different domains (i.e. drug-drug similarity, disease-disease similarity and drug-disease association networks), we first design inter- and intra-domain feature extraction modules by applying graph convolution operations to the networks to learn the embedding of drugs and diseases, instead of simply integrating the three networks into a heterogeneous network. Afterwards, we parallelly fuse the inter- and intra-domain embeddings to obtain the more representative embeddings of drug and disease. Lastly, we introduce a layer attention mechanism to combine embeddings from multiple graph convolution layers for further improving the prediction performance. We find that DRHGCN achieves high performance (the average AUROC is 0.934 and the average AUPR is 0.539) in four benchmark datasets, outperforming the current approaches. Importantly, we conducted molecular docking experiments on DRHGCN-predicted candidate drugs, providing several novel approved drugs for Alzheimer's disease (e.g. benzatropine) and Parkinson's disease (e.g. trihexyphenidyl and haloperidol).

2021 McTAR: A Multi-Trigger Checkpointing Tactic for Fast Task Recovery in MapReduce
abstract
Cloud computing and big data technologies have gained great popularity in recent years. MapReduce is still one of the most efficient and well-adopted computing paradigms for providing big data services. MapReduce applications need to be executed on cloud platform where failures are inevitable. Hadoop is the de facto implementation of MapReduce, but it deploys a coarse grained and unsatisfactory fault tolerant services. The failed tasks are rescheduled from scratch to re-execute from the very beginning, which apparently brings amount of overload for failure recovery, and the whole job would be heavily delayed as failures happen. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-trigger checkpointing approach for fast recovery of MapReduce tasks, named a Multi-trigger Checkpointing Tactic for fAst TAsk Recovery (McTAR). As a finer-grained and better fault tolerance tactic, our McTAR employs multi-trigger checkpoint generation, push-pull combined intermediate data distribution and optimized failure task prediction techniques together to make the recovery task attempt be able to start at a specific progress according to the valid checkpoint for intermediate data. In this way, McTAR could effectively speed up the recovery process of MapReduce jobs and highly reduce the task recovery delay.
