| 2017 | Dimensioning and comparison of common compensation topologies for IPT systemsabstractThis paper presents the dimensioning as well as the comparison of common compensation topologies for inductive power transfer (IPT) systems. A compensation is needed on the primary as well as the secondary side. It consists of a capacitor (parallel or series) in the simplest case or a combination of reactive components (like LCC). This work is the first compilation of the dimensioning, considering all potential combinations of these three compensation possibilities. The five most promising solutions are simulated and the results are compared for constant current- and voltage-operation with varying loads as well as different coupling factors. Finally the different topologies are compared by selected criteria and evaluated accordingly. Martin Trautmann, Marius Ohlendorf, Benedikt Sanftl, Robert Weigel, Alexander Koelpin |

| 2009 | Simulation framework for early phase exploration of SDR platforms: A case study of platform dimensioningabstractSoftware Defined Radio (SDR) terminals are crucial to enable seamless and transparent inter-working between fourth generation wireless access systems or communication modes. On the longer term, SDRs will be extended to become cognitive radios enabling efficient spectrum usage. Future communication modes will have heavy hardware resource requirements and switching between them will introduce dynamism in respect with timing and size of resource requests. In this paper, we propose a modeling framework that enables the simulation of such complex, dynamic hardware/software SDR designs. Thus, we can do an exploration, which can pinpoint the coarse grain platform component requirements for future SDR applications in a very early design phase. Our solution differs from existing ones by combining multiple simulation granularities in a way that is specialized for SDR simulation. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach with a case study for dimensioning the on-chip interconnect of a prospective SDR platform. | 2007 | An effective hybrid transactional memory system with strong isolation guaranteesabstractWe propose signature-accelerated transactional memory (SigTM), a hybrid TM system that reduces the overhead of software transactions. SigTM uses hardware signatures to track the read-set and write-set for pending transactions and perform conflict detection between concurrent threads. All other transactional functionality, including data versioning, is implemented in software. Unlike previously proposed hybrid TM systems, SigTM requires no modifications to the hardware caches, which reduces hardware cost and simplifies support for nested transactions and multithreaded processor cores. SigTM is also the first hybrid TM system to provide strong isolation guarantees between transactional blocks and nontransactional accesses without additional read and write barriers in non-transactional code. Using a set of parallel programs that make frequent use of coarsegrain transactions, we show that SigTM accelerates software transactions by 30 % to 280%. For certain workloads, SigTM can match the performance of a full-featured hardware TM system, while for workloads with large read-sets it can be up to two times slower. Overall, we show that SigTM combines the performance characteristics and strong isolation guarantees of hardware TM implementations with the low cost and flexibility of software TM systems.
