2004 Security risk analysis and evaluation
abstract
Security and cyber-terrorism have become increasingly important issues for organizations and the society. We propose a risk management framework from a bottom-up perspective, i.e. modeling the different types of attacks (or risk types) that an organization could experience. A quantitative model is presented to measure the economic impact of security risk. In addition to risk management, a further goal of this research is to apply data mining techniques to predict and prevent security attacks in an effective manner.

2004 Security management of Web services
abstract
The Internet, while being increasingly used to provide services efficiently, poses a unique set of security issues due to its openness and ubiquity. We highlight the importance of security in Web services and describe how data mining techniques can offer help. The anatomy of two specific security attacks which could cripple Web services or compromise confidential information are described. We survey some security intrusion detection techniques based on data mining and point out their shortcomings. Then we provide some novel data mining techniques to detect such attacks, and describe some safeguard against these attacks.

2000 Addressing interoperability in network management with intelligent agents
abstract
In this paper, we argue that the standard-based intelligent agents constitute an attractive technology to address the challenging issues arising from the unpredictable nature and dynamism of modern heterogeneous networks. Paramount among these issues are diverse services, networks and technologies, multiple vendor equipment, loosely organized management applications and inconsistent databases, multiple management protocols and multiple data representations.

1998 Broadband access technologies and operations
abstract
Advances in switching, transport, and digital signal processing technologies are enabling public network providers to offer new broadband services to customers. The bottleneck, however, is the access network, which is still predominantly the 3-kHz loop plant designed to deliver plain old telephone service. This paper presents a high-level description of various broadband access technologies, describes a model to determine the access network operations costs, and applies it to compare two typical wireline and wireless access technologies.

1988 On-line provisioning of network services
abstract
The authors review the telecommunications service-provisioning process. They describe a view of future service provisioning and discuss the issues and technical problems involved in online service provisioning. They explore how intelligent network elements in conjunction with distributed algorithms and distributed databases can be used to achieve this objective. The authors also present and describe a system architecture for the implementation of online service provisioning.>
